Animal Doctors - virtual presentation Feb 26 Doctors - virtual presentation Feb 26<p>​</p><p><strong>Animal Doctors: Sigmund Brouwer and 2 veterinarians (11:00 am)  (K-6)</strong><strong> </strong><strong>FEBRUARY 26 BREAK AT 10:00</strong></p><p>"In celebration of his new book, Pasture Bedtime, Sigmund Brouwer shares great real-life animal stories (with accompanying video footage) to engage your students from k-6. Dr. Kwantes and Dr. Lawson from the Canadian Medical Veterinary Association will be able to answer their questions about pets, wild animals, and share advice on how to reach their own dreams through the importance of reading. (Some of your students will probably be reassured to hear what the doctors can tell them about Covid-19 and pets at home.) Half of the registration fee will be donated to Vets Without Borders, and every school will have a chance to win a signed class set of Pasture Bedtime. Anti-bullying virtual presentation Feb 24th virtual presentation Feb 24th<p>​</p><p><strong>Pink Shirt Anti Bullying-Eric Walters, Sigmund Brouwer, Wali Shah and Raquel Cole (1:00pm) (Grades 3-8)</strong><strong> </strong><strong>FEBRUARY 24 BREAK AT 10:00</strong></p><p>"I'm excited to let you know that Sigmund Brouwer, who has dozens of books in print for children, and I will be joined by Wali Shah for a special live virtual <em>Pink Shirt Day</em> one-hour event for your grades 3-8 students, in a format that has shown to be very engaging for the students. </p><p> </p><p>As a TED Talks speaker who advocates positive change, Wali has been named as one of RBC's Top 25 Canadian Immigrants, has been featured on TV with Selena Gomez and performed for President Barack Obama as well as for Seth Rogan. We know that you students will love to hear him and ask him questions via the interactive chat box that is part of our event. (<a href=""></a>)</p><p> </p><p><em>Pink Shirt Day</em>, as you know, is an amazing opportunity to underscore the importance of kindness, anti-bullying, and self-esteem, so we are equally excited that <em>Canadian Country Music Association</em> award-winning artist Raquel Cole will give a live performance of her song <em>True Blue. </em>As a great role model for students, Raquel will share a message of self esteem as she talks about the inspiration the song and a book of the same name written by Sigmund. (<a href=""></a>)</p><p> </p><p>As part of our inclusive message about social justice, a portion of every registration will be made to <em>Hope Story</em> to support orphans in Kenya, based on my books <em>My Name is Blessing </em>and<em> Hockey Night In Kenya </em>. For this, Danson Mutinda will be joining us live from the orphanage there to talk about how the positive impact of our help to the children there."</p><p> </p><p><br></p>

‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safely‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safely<p>​</p><p>The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) launched the Bus Tag<strong> </strong>program this September.<strong> </strong>The Bus Tag program supports safety for JK/SK and other school-identified students by<strong> </strong>providing a process to match students to their assigned afternoon school bus and to also<strong> </strong>identify they must be met by a parent or guardian at their afternoon bus stop.</p><p>The program provides:</p><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>a colour coded bus tag with the assigned p.m. route number to be attached to the student's backpack</li><li>a colour-coded route card with route number in the windows of the school bus that the Bus Tag is matched to</li></ul><p>The SCSTC and Bus Operators have policies and procedures that are used on all school vehicles to ensure students in JK/SK and other school identified students are met at their afternoon bus stop.  It's the parent/guardian's responsibility to meet Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten and other identified students at the bus stop .The Bus Tag program has been established to assist both the schools and school bus drivers to load these students on the correct afternoon bus and identify they are to be met at their bus stop by a parent/guardian.
